Plumber in Twin Falls, Idaho

3 Questions to Ask Your Plumber

When you are looking to hire a plumber, there are a few important questions you should ask the plumber, or plumbing company, before choosing the one you want to work with.

1. Are You Licensed and Insured?

Never hire an unlicensed plumber! States require plumbers be licensed, and different states have different requirements, so be sure that the person or company you hire is both licensed and appropriately insured before they begin any work on your plumbing. If you feel comfortable doing so, it’s also wise and acceptable to ask them for references and any other credentials they may have. Angie’s List has a free license-checking feature on their website that allows you to check licensure that’s worth checking out if you’re in need of plumbing services in your area.

2. Is this Quote a Flat-Rate? (And other cost-related questions!)

Nobody likes to overspend if they don’t have to, and people want to know what they’ll be spending their hard-earned money on. It’s completely reasonable to know what you’ll be charged for when hiring a plumber. Many plumbing companies offer a flat rate, but check with the company beforehand just to be sure, as some may charge by the hour. Ask about other possible fees that you may be charged for, including any additional time, parts, services, or procedures. It’s also wise to find out about payment plans and how long you have to pay your bill. Finally, find out whether or not clean-up is included in the fee or if it’s an additional charge.

3. What Caused This and How Can I Keep It From Happening Again?

This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s important to understand the situation as best as you can in order to save you time and money in the future. Any plumber will want to help educate you on the problem you’re experiencing and will most likely explain these things without you having to ask, but don’t be afraid to ask them to clarify if you don’t understand something or if they don’t answer specific questions you may have. Depending on the nature of your problem, and especially if you’re concerned, ask the plumber if they offer 24-hour emergency assistance to give you peace of mind.

Make sure all of your questions are answered before making the decision about which plumber you want to do business with. Don’t be afraid to ask! The plumber will be happy to answer any questions you may have before, during, and after working with them.
